When I was seven, I told my mother I wanted to write the words and make the pictures for children’s books when I grew up. I had made my very first “book” while a Kindergartner in St. Louis—an illustrated introduction called “Our School Helpers”—which featured my teacher in a blue print dress and garish red lipstick. |

Along the way, I moved a lot, graduated from college, and worked as a teacher and a graphic designer. But for the past 17 years, I have felt very lucky to be doing what I love to do: writing and illustrating children’s picture books.

My husband and I live on Frog Song Pond in Gorham, Maine. Our sons are young adults now. Alex, who lives in Boston, is a songwriter and musician. Eams is an industrial designer who is currently living in Pittsburgh. They both live happy, creative lives. |

I have my very own tree house near the pond, where I can watch the turtles, frogs, ducks, deer, and birds who live there. These critters have found their way into my books!
